Easter 2013

Easter was spent with Ally at Pottsville and my friend Leah. We visited Byron Bay and the light house. And I visited the most easterly point on mainland Australia.

Battery charger

The battery charger for the van which is situated under one of the seats failed - so I wanted to get it fixed, if not fixed I would have to replace and at a cost of $700 for a new one - I don't think so....... After being passed around from one place to the next - I spoke to Ray from Alco batteries he suggested I take it to Laurie from Apple City Auto Electrics - 026362 0848. I left the said battery charger - Laurie said he would have a look at it, and let me know if he could fix it. He found that a fuse had blown, but the fuses were inside the box, he has since re-located them on the outside - suggestion if your battery charger has failed, look further as a fuse is a lot cheaper than replacement. Laurie worked his wonders - and a few days later I received a phone call it was fixed. If anyone wants any auto electrics done Laurie is the man, he is situated at 39 Leewood Drive Orange NSW. The charger is now working extremely well. Another person we can recommend if you are anywhere near Orange. I wish our fridge was fixed as easily - they have found that it is faulty, but getting Dometic to do anything about it is another issue.

Borenore Caves

The ancient limestone caves are the feature attraction at Borenore, and there are several that are open to explore. The most popular is Arch Cave, and it’s a good idea to bring a torch so you can see the stalactites, stalagmites, columns and flowstones inside. Drive the scenic Borenore trail and finish up with a picnic or barbecue lunch at the caves. The picnic area is a large grassy area, with plenty of shady trees, electric barbecues which are free to use and toilets. They are situated on the Escort Way 17kms out of Orange.

Orange

On Sunday we decided to take a look around Orange. It always baffled me that a place called Orange was where apples and cherries grew. Orange is known as the food basket of NSW, they celebrate F.O.O.D. week from 12th to 21st April where they have food & wine tastings throughout the area . Originally known as Blackman's Swamp 'Orange' was so named by Surveyor-General Thomas Mitchell in honour of the Prince of Orange, who later became the King of Holland. It is also the birth place of A.B."Banjo" Patterson, they have a monument near the Tourist Information Centre, downtown Orange. We also took some time out at Cook Park which is a beautiful park with plenty of seats so one can admire the extraordinary mix of trees, some coming from the Himalayas. We also visited the Botanic Gardens which was a open plan with dog parks, lake, and a lot of work has been done recently.
